Ah, winter in California– where temperatures rise higher than 65 degrees on a sunny day, and rarely drop below 50 on a cold one. Even though that might feel cold to some, we know we’ve got it good compared to the rest of the country. Unless you’re spending the weekend tucked away in the Sierras, you can count on never seeing snow during the winter months. Many appreciate this, but for those who just moved here it can evoke a sense of nostalgia. There is something magical about a winter’s first snow, a white Christmas–and even cursing at below freezing temps (we’re kidding–sort of). If you recently moved to the Bay Area–or simply miss a cold and snowy holiday season–here are a some holiday activities to help you get your winter fix.

Ice Skate at Embarcadero
A traditional winter activity that will be sure to bring you back to your childhood days. Fun fact: the outdoor skating rink in the largest in the Bay Area
. Located across from the iconic Ferry Building, this ice rink is guaranteed to give NYC’s Central Park’s rink a run for its money–plus it’s not as cold. Grab your friends, kids, or significant other and live out your inner Michelle Kwan. General admission is $11, and only $7 for kids; you also have to pay $5 if you want to rent ice skates. The rink closes on January 8, so hurry up!
Enjoy The SF Symphony
The San Francisco Symphony offers an array of events during the holiday season. If you’re hoping to get more in the Christmas spirit, payin a visit to the symphony is a must-do activity. On December 11, these talented musicians will be putting on a show around the theme “Holiday Brass.” They’ll sing all of your favorite holiday tunes from “The Twelve Days of Christmas” to “Greensleeves.” Snag your tickets here

Do you have a history of singing your favorite Christmas carols on your neighbor’s porch? Or have you ever dreamed of it?
